CTI (Corps Member Training Instatute) (Oct 6th-Nov 3rd)

So Im starting this blog a little late. I am currently nearing the end of Round 2, but i feel the need to do this! (My sister said it would be neat if we both did it :D). Anyway, that night i got accepted into the program was a crazy one. NCCC wanted me in California in 10 days. That left me 10 days to drop my classes, quit my job, and say goodbye to all my family and friends.
My last day home my friends threw me a suprize going away party! It was an awesome thing for them to do and i miss all of them very much! my friend Gabe did a good job of distracting me by taking me to "big brooke" for the last time.

The next day I was at the NCCC Sacramento Campus, surrounded by new people who were just as confused and excited as i was. I was placed on a temporary team that they called PODs (Point Of Direction). At this point i was placed in Gold Unit

As the week went on i had HOURS of trainings, mostly in this room. Which was also the room that had the isles and isles of kitchens.
Durring breaks, my "Poddies" and I decided it was time to start exploring downtown Sac-Town. Where we ran into this man! he called himself "Brother from another mother-ship."
It also took time for me to get used to the strange heat...and palm trees.
(My permanent team "Green 6" minus our Team Leader Pam cause she was at a wedding. Acting TL was the green unit Support Team Leader Katie Curtis :D)

I was then givin my full team, Green 6, and our first service project! unfortunately. i don't have any pictures from our first service project. It was at the Sacramento Marina where we cleared brush (a clue of things to come) and also, everyone on the team got poison oak from it.(Which i also still have scars from it at the end of Round 2). Above is pictures from our second service project! at an alternative highschool garden.

Along with the planned service projects i also had set up my first ISP (independent service project) at a local elementary school. They wanted help scaring kids, and i was happy to find that help :D Above are my friends Alex and Danielle who gladly volunteered to help scare the kids.

MENDOCINO- Camp Mendocino is a Boys and Girls club camp in the northern California redwood forest. Here at the camp we had what was called a "Mini" spike. (A Spike is any project over 50 miles from the Sacramento campus.) We also spent the time waking up early in the cold to do ladder runs (like a team building version of jogging) and team building exercises.

Here are some awesome people I spent my time with there! ...and Steve.

they also had a rock wall...and a ZIP LINE.

After Mendocino we had a quick cook out. This was the night we found out where we were going for Round 1. My team was going to Oakhurst, CA (20 miles south of Yosemite) to work at a camp called Sugar Pine Christian Camp. for 6 weeks we were going to be doing fuel reduction. (AKA moving sticks and burning them.)

INDUCTION- Last day at campus before we left for Sugar Pine. This was the day we got to rock the Ameri-Tux, watch the TL's do a quick little dance, and say our goodbyes to other teams. Next stop. OAKHURST.
